Advanced Driving
 |
|
Advanced driving is the ability to control the speed of the vehicle safely, systematically and smoothly. Using road and traffic conditions to make reasonable progress unobtrusively, with skill and responsibility. |
As agreed between the IAM, RoSPA and DSA etc, Advanced Driving requires a positive but courteous attitude and a high standard of driving competence based on concentration, effective all round observation, anticipation and planning. This must be coordinated with good handling skills. The vehicle will always be in the right place on the road at the right time, traveling at the right speed with the correct gear engaged and can always be stopped safely in the distance that can be seen to be clear". .
We at Alan's offer high quality Advanced Driver Training, updating drivers with modern driving techniques, techniques that will help to reduce crashes, incidents and you vehicle maintenance costs. Training and advice is also available for the following examinations, or just for your own personal satisfaction.

Advanced motorists can
expect:
• Reduced insurance premiums.
• Positive and responsible driving
attitudes towards themselves and other road users.
• Advanced driving techniques
to help reduce the stress of driving in a busy and threatening
environment.
• Their confidence to improve
when driving in all types of road, traffic and adverse
weather conditions.
• The ability to read the road
and react to hazards in a planned and systematic way.
• A smoother and safer driving
style which can significantly reduce wear and tear on
items such as tyres, breaks, clutch and gearbox.
Initially we recommend a two-hour assessment
lesson (£40), during the first 45 minutes your
instructor will complete an assessment of your current
driving skills, this assessment will form the basis
of your Advanced Driving course. Your instructor will
give you feedback based on your assessment, followed
by a demonstration drive by your instructor complete
with an instructional commentary and debrief at the
end. Your instructor will then become your own personal
trainer and coach giving tips, information and advice,
helping to improve your driving skills. Further lessons
would normally be booked in advance for 2 hour sessions.
The price of both assessment and further lessons is
£20 per hour, correct as at 04/11/03.
Our recommended course reading is The
Highway Code and a further publication called Roadcraft,
the essential police driver's handbook, this book is
used by most Police Forces around the country to train
their advanced drivers. These books should be read in
conjunction with other notes provided by your instructor
during your driving course.
Alan's advanced driving instructors
are all fully trained having completed the advanced
driving tests themselves, some are police trained and
many hold the Diploma in Advanced Driving Instruction
and are DSA registered Fleet Trainers.
